We asked Ron Patton, Senior Engineer at Prolynx, Inc about his experience with Ipswitch's IMail Server 8.0:

How is IMail 8.0 truly innovative? What is new about it? What separates it from other similar products/technologies?

As an ISP, we host more than 500 domains and provide e-mail to about 4,500 customers using IMail Server. The first surprise was how easy the software was to install and learn. I expected it to take weeks to load, but instead it took less than a day. This rarely ever happens, regardless of what type of software one is installing.

One of the most difficult challenges I have faced in regards to providing email is filtering out unwanted and unsolicited email messages. I have been extremely pleased with the comprehensive anti-spam feature set IMail 8.0 includes, and since installing IMail 8.0, we’ve stopped roughly 4,000 spam messages a day. In addition to the statistical and list knowledge IMail draws upon, IMail enables me to customize in and outbound rules, which further decreases spam delivery.

Ipswitch also added a Queue Manager that directs resources toward deliverable messages. After determining one address in a domain is deliverable, the manager assumes that domain is currently unavailable and puts all messages to that domain in the queue and resends them at a later time. This makes sure deliverable messages are sent as soon as possible.

I also imagine the fact that IMail is available in six different languages is important for our customers. Currently, IMail can be viewed in Dutch, German, French, English, Korean and Japanese, with Chinese and Spanish to be available in the near future. The interface can viewed in a different language simply by selecting that language from a drop down menu. This is important for non-native English speakers as well as for businesses using our services which have a global presence.

Please describe the payback customers like you are getting from this innovative technology

We are immensely appreciative of IMail’s ability to combat spam. It has taken our technical burden way down so we can now focus on other, more important, parts of the business. Although mostly harmless, spam messages can be offensive to our customers and distracting to our employees. Deleting these messages ensures a more pleasant email experience and a more productive business day.

As illustrated by the 53 million global users, IMail is an effective, reliable email solution. The low cost provides a great alternative to more expensive groupware solutions that have many peripheral capabilities that I feel would hinder Prolynx more than they would help. IMail meets our needs at an extremely affordable price. Also, the unique pricing structure of IMail makes the software available to everyone, at the level needed. Ipswitch has saved us time and money, and I would pay three times the cost of the product if I had to.
